Events and Activities

In addition to monthly meetings BARC regularly participates in several annual events. From time to time we may add annual or single time events.

License Classes and VE Exams

We try to have a Technician class at least once per year, followed by a Volunteer Exam Session. If you are interested, or know someone who is, there is more information and a registration form on the License Class Page. As always, there is no charge for the class. The ARRL license manual is optional.

BARC normally holds VE sessions sanctioned by the Greater Los Angeles Area Radio Group. With the COVID-19 restrictions these tests are now being conducted online using Zoom. The GLAARG.org website has details and instructions on how to take a test.

ARRL Field Day, 2023

ARRL Field Day is an annual emergency operations demonstration/exercise to demonstrate the ability to set up a communications system anywhere. The objective is to set up a portable system and make as many contacts as possible in as many different sections in the USA and Canada. Field Day is held the last full weekend in June, so mark your calendar for June 24 and 25, 2023!

Members who do not operate at the club site can contact the club station for credit. So if you can, please contact us us on HF or VHF/UHF simplex.

Route 66 On the Air

An annual event paying tribute to the history of the “Mother Road”. Ham clubs in cities and towns from one end of Route 66 to the other participate with a special event station. BARC participates as W6E, the fifth station on Route 66, which starts in Santa Monica and ends at Chicago. This is the 16th year BARC will participate, as W6E. The event will be held September 9 to 17, 2023. All BARC members are encouraged to participate, and during a week long event there is a good chance that everyone can find some time to play along. The Route 66 On The Air event is sponsored by the Citrus Belt Amateur Radio Club.
